High Point University’s Office of Institutional Advancement seeks a dynamic, full-time Manager of Advancement Events who is responsible for management of the University’s advancement events designed to cultivate more purposeful, meaningful, and impactful relationships with its alumni, families, and donors.
This position will independently manage the planning and execution of a variety of on and off-campus events, supervise the events team and departmental student employee, and is responsible for event related budgeting and effectiveness.
Events include major University events like Family Weekend, Homecoming, Convocation and Commencement, along with luncheons and receptions for niche audiences.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, with High Point University as a preference.
2-3 years of related experience in event planning supplemented by experience in marketing, sales, or public relations.
Management experience preferred; project management experience required.
Effective written, oral, and interpersonal skills.
Knowledge of database/CRM use for events and communication.
Discretion and professionalism to work with donors and donor data.
Ability to supervise full-time professionals and student employees.
Self-motivated and proactive individual who can work independently on multiple concurrent projects, collaboratively as a team member and manage volunteers of all ages.
Strong skill sets in problem solving, decision-making skills, negotiation, budget, and fiscal management.
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends and travel as needed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Manages the planning and execution of all advancement events and activities, both on and off-campus, for all members of the High Point University community to help meet the University’s engagement and fundraising goals.
Plans, implements, and directs, as a whole or in part, major University events such as Convocation, Family Weekends, Homecoming and Commencement.
Supervises full-time event planning staff and departmental student employees.
Works collaboratively with multiple University departments to coordinate events on campus (i.
e.
, Admissions, Student Life, Campus Enhancement, Information Technology, Career and Professional Development, Security, Transportation, Catering and Communications).
Point of contact with external vendors related to event logistics, orders, and procurement.
Handles multiple projects simultaneously during occasional changing dynamics (i.
e.
, time, location, people); effectively communicates and interacts with high profile individuals (i.
e.
, administration, donors, university guests, special guests).
Oversees the statistical analysis, attendance tracking, communication effectiveness and return on invested resources for all planned events.
Develops creative ideas to maximize the effectiveness and impact of events consistent with the overall objectives of the university and department.
Responsible for fiscal responsibility of the allocated advancement events budget in the, along with submitting all requisitions and orders.
Recruits, trains, and manages volunteers of all ages.
Participates in planning meetings, accept special assignments, assist colleagues, and provide support for all ongoing programs and operations as needed.
Performs other related duties as required or assigned by the Senior Director of Alumni Engagement.
ACCOUNTABILITY: Reports to the Senior Director of Alumni Engagement on a weekly, monthly, and semi-annual basis on project statuses and upcoming deadlines.
Meets goals and deadlines as set forth in weekly, monthly, and annual supervisory meetings.
